In answer to yours of the 25th instant referring to
the bond which you are preparing I have the honour to bring to
your notice the following
1. As I joined the Hong Kong Service in 1887 and took no
leave until 1895 it would appear that my whole available leave
should be twenty-six months, not twenty-five thus extending to
August 17th instead of July 17th.
2. That as I am to sign a bond undertaking not to leave
the Service for at least two years after my return to the Colony
I am entitled to four months further extension from the date of
the expiration of my whole available leave, and not three and a
half months only as mentioned in my letter from the Colonial
Office dated February 6th 1897.
on leave
Allowed for special
Thus, two years and two months from June 18th 1895 appear
to be the total amount of leave which was due to me from 1887
to 1895 plus four months in advance if I sign a bond under-
taking not to retire from the service for at least two years
after my return to the Colony.
I should be glad to have these corrections made as I am
still working at the Pasteur Institute, and need all the time
which is due to me in order to finish my course of study.
I am,
&c,
(Signed)
C. Vivian Ladds.
